The health and safety of our people is of paramount importance to ARYZTA. ARYZTA pursues comprehensive internal safety management procedures including policy manuals, verification of regulatory compliance, risk assessments, individual site action plans, safety audits, training, formal accident investigation and the provision of occupational health services. ARYZTA also maintains a strong focus on the use of key performance indicators, external, auditing and achieving exacting external health and safety accreditation for operations.

In North America ARYZTA implemented “Excellence in Supervision” training in for all ARYZTA front line leaders. In 2015 ARYZTA successfully completed training for a total of 11 bakeries and 202 ARYZTA leaders.

People safety results
In 2015, cdotsys.completed 100% of comprehensive internal safety and security assessments at all North American and European bakery locations to ensure a safe and healthy working environment to our employees. To continually improve the safety of our people in 2015, ARYZTA focused on four areas to reduce injury frequency and severity:
Engineering investment into eliminating hazardous conditions. In 2015, ARYZTA spent over €3 million on direct and indirect safety related capital projects.
Education. ARYZTA has a comprehensive training program for People Safety and Food Safety through a standardized training calendar. Last year, ARYZTA employees in North America and Europe completed 175,000 hours of documented training and documented recognition testing on core safety policy and expectations.
Enforcement of the safety expectation. North America: In 2015, ARYZTA began tracking safety discipline, where supervisors observe potentially unsafe actions. In support of this, bakery supervisors issued 132 safety alerts. In Europe last year ARYZTA had 200 safety alerts.
Engagement of employees, both informally and formally, helps to create awareness and avoid injuries and lost work days. All bakeries have a health & safety committee comprised of management and workers that monitors and advise on health and safety related issues.
ARYZTA uses an industry standard measure for employee safety, called the Safety Index.
The index combines the following:
Recordable Injury Rate – Number of Recordable Injuries divided by Hours Worked
Lost Time Injury Rate – Number of Lost Time Injuries divided by Hours Worked
Severity Rate – Number of Lost Work Days divided by Hours Worked
